USB Stick Suddenly Stopped Working
His enquiry gave one symptom and one stake, and the symptom is more informative than it looks. An 8GB USB stick: "it has suddenly stopped working and it is full of resources for my work. Flash storage fails in two quite different styles, and they are distinguishable by exactly this: whether the failure crept up or arrived in one moment. A stick that had been getting slower, dropping out mid-copy, or refusing the odd file was warning him for weeks. A stick that worked on Tuesday and was dead on Wednesday has failed a different way — and that way is the better one, because it usually leaves everything on the stick intact behind a component that has simply stopped answering.

The decode: what suddenness rules out, and the three candidates left
Why the pattern matters: the memory in a flash device wears gradually. What to do and not do: stop inserting it. Each attempt powers whatever has failed and returns the same answer, and repeated insertion is what finishes off cracked joints. Do not run repair or format utilities, and decline any offer to reformat if a machine ever half-sees it.
