Once we provide a quote, send your device to us (insured) from wherever you are located in Yorkshire. If you prefer, you can also drop off your device at our Leeds drop-off location at The Pinnacle, which is located on Albion Street, and this service does not require an appointment. Either way, the diagnostic costs nothing.
Halifax to Leeds can be completed by train within an hour (or a straight shot on the M62) so is relatively simple and convenient if you’ve got a price quote and want to hand-deliver your device; likewise by insured delivery post. Calderdale sends us the full range of cases, e.g. laptop computers which will not turn on; hard drive failure resulting from being bumped/knocked etc.; solid state disks that have simply disappeared from the computer system; small business NAS (Network Attached Storage); and the photos that are worth more than everything else at home.
A drive coming from Halifax will receive the same service that a drive coming from Leeds receives. Both will receive a complimentary diagnostic test. Both will receive a fixed written quote prior to any chargeable work. Both drives will be recovered using in-house engineers employed directly by us (as opposed to a third party). Most of the time there will be no cost to the customer for this service, unless the customer’s data returns from the recovery process.
Disconnect it and keep it disconnected. Clicking after a drop means the read/write heads are damaged. Powering on again can risk damaging the disks. If we provide a quote, please bring or post the hard drive to us at that point. Please do not attempt to plug it in. Repairing a defective head is common. However, we cannot perform a head swap until the device has been turned off.
Yes, this will be included as part of your complimentary diagnostics. Many “dead” external hard disks have a dead USB bridge circuit board or dead power supply (with a good disk). We need to test both, so please send the entire unit with its cable.
Yes, anywhere within Calderdale, on identical terms; insured postal delivery usually arrives at our facility by the next working day. The cost for recovery/evaluation services depends on what needs to be done with your device and the nature of the problem you’re experiencing, not where it was posted from.
