The decode: what shucking is, and the damage stack in its true order

Shucking, for the record: among media collectors, "shucking" is the practice of buying an external drive and freeing the bare unit from its enclosure — usually to slot it into a server or drive bay. Done calmly on a healthy drive with the right prying tools, it's routine enthusiast surgery.
